NE, T 15 N, R 13 E is an exploration of the Jeffersonian grid’s rationalization of the natural landscape and its impact on Midwestern rural and urban development. The Land Ordinance of 1785, drafted by Thomas Jefferson, divided undeveloped areas into one square mile plots. The 36x36 section area shown represents 1,296 square miles including the Omaha metro and was abstracted using digital methodologies to better understand the dialogue between rural and urban land use. The urban areas are represented at a quarter-quarter scale or 1/4” grid and the rural areas are represented at a quarter scale or 1/2” grid. The final product of this exploration expresses the relative intensity of land usage and development.
